Excursion
Sea turtle hatchery is mostly visited by local and foreign. The sea turtles are one of the rare species found in the world. Habaraduwa is 5 km from the Galle – Matara Road. In order to conserve turtles and other marine species, the small hatchery was firstly started in 1986. Sri Lankan beaches are reckoned as a favorable breeding spot of the sea turtles. The injured turtles are conserved in another tank in the hatchery. A small climb of sand is nearby to the tanks where clans of eggs are conserved.
Their heritage could be traced to more than 100 million years. They are supposed to have lived during the Dinosaurs age. But at present about 8 varieties of turtles are said to be existing. But due to the destroying of these turtles, there is a threat of these species being eradicated from our planet.
